“The BioBord Tree Saver”
Virtually all MDF is made utilizing wood fibre. Originally, the concept was to use “residual wood fibre” such as sawdust, shavings, and pulp chips for the raw material supply. However, the industry began moving to use whole logs for supplying wood fibre. Part of the reason was that MDF Mills considered whole logs to offer superior fibre, and the MDF produced from whole logs was of better quality. Secondly, and probably the major reason for whole logs was simply because the supply of residual wood fibre, in all world markets, began to shrink. Much of this is as a result of the “wood pellet” industry. Electrical utilities in both Europe and South East Asia (Including Japan) began using wood pellets in combination with coal to reduce their emissions (rather than simply using 100% coal). The wood source for these electrical utilities was “wood pellets’-these pellets were originally made from residual wood fibre (the same fibre feeding MDF mills). However, over time, the demand for wood pellets has become so massive that these utilities have also started engaging in “whole log chipping” to provide additional fuel to these power plants.
With trees serving as “the lungs of the planet”, any decrease in forest size is of serious concerns. Lesser volumes of trees means lesser volumes of carbon dioxide being absorbed by these trees, and less oxygen released by these trees. Forest management and deforestation are complex subjects. Estimates have to be be made as to how much a particular forest grows each year, and timber harvesting permits, in theory, ensure that wood removal does not exceed wood growth. However, foresters will tell you this is a horrific calculation to rely on. For example, estimates have to be made on how much timber will be destroyed in forest fires each year. Equally, estimates also have to be made on how much timber will be destroyed by insect attacks. If forest fires, or insect attacks, are more frequent than estimated, the harvest of wood from any particular forest will be too high as compared to growth of the forest. Additionally, the age of the forest is important. Old trees grow slower than young trees, and getting the age distribution wrong results in additional harvesting volume mistakes.
Of course, we also assume that forest product companies obey the harvesting laws. In Canada, the USA, and Western Europe, most forest product companies realize their jobs depend on accurate estimates, and do their best to harvest wood on a sustainable basis. Unfortunately, in Russia, Africa, South America and Asia, such sustainability is usually ignored, in search of more profits. We have all seen the over harvesting occurring in the Amazon region, most of Africa, Indonesia, Russia, and numerous other countries. The whole scale devastation of these forests is not only totally eliminating these forests, it’s also eliminating all animal life in these same forests, and ruining the landscape for individuals who live in these areas.

Majestic Trees
The “BioBord Tree Saver” calculates how much fibre the mill uses on a daily basis, and because we use agricultural fibre, we can estimate how many tress, on average, did not have to be harvested to supply the mill. As BioBord grows into a world wide network of agri-fibre MDF mills, the volume of trees not being cut down will become massive. Let’s face it, destroying the lungs of our planet is suicide for mankind. And we don’t need to do this-agri fibre easily fills the need, leaving the trees free to grow, absorb carbon dioxide, release oxygen, and provide a home for the animals and humans that call these forests “home”.
According to Quora.com, “200,000 acres of forest are cleared each day. That equates to 139 acres each minute, or roughly 55,600 trees being destroyed every minute”, so every 60 seconds displayed in the counter above means another 55,600 trees have been cut down. All the more reason that BioBord products should be used!
